Donald Sultan: The Theater of the Object, Carter Ratcliff
American painter, sculptor, and printmaker Donald Sultan rose to prominence in the electrified atmosphere of New York's downtown art renaissance in the late 1970s and 1980s. Sultan was one of the first to employ industrial materials to describe the iconic landscape. Donald Sultan: The Theater of the Object is the first comprehensive monograph of the artist's distinguished 30-year career. Since his first major show in the late 1970s, Donald Sultan has exhibited in hundreds of group and solo shows in the US and Europe.
A leading art critic, Carter Ratcliff has received numerous awards of distinction for his work, including a Guggenheim Fellowship and two Art Critics Grants from the National Endowment for the Arts.
