Amelia Maggio

Amelia Maggio is a fiction writer. She is a graduate of Bard College (BA), where she received the Wilton Moore Lockwood prize for distinguished creative writing, and the Iowa Writers’ Workshop (MFA). Her work has appeared in American Short Fiction.

Born in Italy and raised in New England, Amelia is drawn to coastlines and brackish water. While pursuing her graduate degree, Amelia received a Stanley Award for International Research, which supported her study of New Zealand’s longfin eels. Her fascination with the human relationship to the nonhuman—which profoundly influences her work—has been shaped by her experience as a polo groom, fishmonger, and cheesemonger. Currently, she teaches history through the lenses of art, monstrosity, environmentalism, and ethics. She lives with her husband in Connecticut.
